Discipleship
is the process of teaching and being taught what it means to be a
Christ-follower. It begins at the time an individual decides to trust
Jesus with every part of his or her life. Like the disciples in the
locked room on resurrection day, Jesus reveals himself to us and we
believe that he is the Son of God. Then our new life of becoming his
disciple begins.
At Hope Church, we believe
that one of our main purposes is to help people with that process.
Upcoming events...
● This Fall, starting in September, we will offer two or three Wednesday
evening groups at the church. One will be grief study, the other a
visionary eye-opening study by James Harnish, You Only Have to Die.
A third possibility is being considered. We would love to have you
join us beginning in September for one of these classes. We will
plan a family night with dinner as often as we can to provide dinner and
discipleship.
What we're currently doing...
● We host a women's study on Wednesday mornings at 9:30. During that
time, women are learning how to better live by faith.
● Men meet on Wednesday nights for fellowship and a look at the history
of Christianity.
● We provide one or two study groups for adults on Sunday morning
at 9:00. We offer a variety of topics including Bible study, how-to
studies for Christ-followers, beginners' classes, and what it means to
be a United Methodist classes.
●We are in the middle of a new discipleship series on six Wednesdays in
June and July. The topic is Biblically based Life Rules by Andy
Stanley. The program consists of a short video each week followed
by discussion led by Pastor Lee. If you would like to attend,
please jump in. Time of this series is 7:00 p.m.
What we've done recently...
In January, we held a five-week course entitled, "Just Walk across the
Room." After having dinner together, we followed Bill Hybels' lead
in taking simple steps (for example: across a room or a soccer
field) to engage people in conversation and develop friendships simply
to see where the Spirit of God leads with that relationship. In
simple terms, we learned "don't be a cocoon."
During Lent, we held a short study to help us determine why Matthew says
Jesus is the son of David. We discovered some of the ways the life
of David teaches us about being disciples.
